J.Lo and A-Rod are engaged!
After just over two years of dating, Jennifer Lopez, 49, and Alex Rodriguez, 43, are engaged to be married.
Here’s what we know:
J.Lo and A-Rod are on a romantic beach getaway in the Bahamas.
Prior to the engagement announcement, both have been posting stunning pictures like this one:
“Even though this trip to the Bahamas has been planned for a few weeks, friends had no idea that Alex would be popping the question this weekend,” a source says. “Alex kept all of the details surrounding his ring shopping and his proposal very private—almost everyone in their inner circle was caught by surprise when Jennifer posted the photo of the ring.”
Both J.Lo and A-Rod announced their engagement on Saturday night at the same time via a photo of her wearing a massive emerald-cut diamond engagement ring.
About that ring:
J.Lo’s stunning engagement ring from A-Rod appears to be a 12-15 carat emerald cut diamond in a classic solitaire white gold or platinum setting. The elegant simplicity of the ring’s design allows the gorgeous, show-stopping center diamond to be the focal point.
Andrew Fox, president of SuperJewler.com, says that the emerald-cut ring is “one helluva huge diamond.” He guessed that it “is an emerald cut of between 11 carats and 15 carats.” Ira Weissman of Diamond Pro said that the ring could be worth up to $5 million. In any case, several jewelers agreed, it starts at at least $1 million.
Ring experts from JamesAllen.com said that the ring’s history only adds to its value:
“Emerald cut diamonds became popular back in the 1920s, a time when clean lines and art deco styles were in fashion. However, we’ve seen a returned interest in this shape, with celebrities such as Amal Clooney and Beyoncé sporting the stone.”
One celebrity friend who will be elated with the engagement news is Ellen DeGeneres.
When Lopez was a guest on Ellen in mid-February, she hinted that she might be getting a ring sooner than later. In true Ellen fashion, the talk-show host brought out a cheesy gift for the singer: a clock featuring a photo of J-Lo and A-Rod kissing “to remind him that time is ticking and he should hurry up and propose.” Lopez was all about it and exclaimed, “I’m gonna give this to him for Valentine’s Day: your time’s almost up!”
“Yes. I’ll be your maid of honor,” DeGeneres wrote in the comments on J-Lo’s Instagram post announcing the engagement.
This will be Lopez’s fourth time down the aisle. She was previously married to waiter Ojani Noa (1997 to 1998), dancer Cris Judd (2002 to 2003) and singer Marc Anthony (2004 to 2014), with whom she shares 11-year-old twins, Maximilian “Max” David and Emme Maribel. Rodriguez was married to Cynthia Scurtis from 2002 to 2008. They have two daughters: Natasha Alexander, 14, and Ella Alexander, 10.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
