Official Kentucky Derby Mint Julep Recipe

For nearly a century, the Mint Julep has been the official cocktail of the Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby. For 18 years the official Mint Julep of the Kentucky Derby is by Early Times Kentucky Whisky. You can buy it as a ready-to-serve cocktail from Early Times at your local retailer. If it isn’t available, here is the recipe for you to make Mint Juleps at home. The ingredients are simple, but the taste is uniquely delicious! Whether you are hosting party or just watching the derby by yourself, be sure your have a silver cup containing a Mint Julep in your hand.

The Early Times Mint Julep Recipe
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
Sprigs of fresh mint
Crushed ice
Early Times Kentucky Whisky
Silver Julep Cups

Make a simple syrup by boiling sugar and water together for five minutes. Cool and place in a covered container with six or eight sprigs of fresh mint, then refrigerate overnight. Make one julep at a time by filling a julep cup with crushed ice, adding one tablespoon mint syrup and two ounces of Early Times Kentucky Whisky. Stir rapidly with a spoon to frost the outside of the cup. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.
